Québec is looking to reduce GHG and at Énergir, we’re already taking action. Our vision includes concrete measures — energy efficiency, renewable natural gas, innovative energy complementarity — that allow us to remain a key player in addressing climate, economic and social issues for our customers and for Québec. We are driven by two objectives: decarbonize our natural gas network and be present where and when we have value. Four main orientations guide us.

Step up our energy efficiency efforts

The only truly green energy is the energy we don’t consume. Énergir is working to prevent an additional 1 million tonnes of GHG emissions by 2030 through its energy efficiency programs.

Accelerate the injection of renewable natural gas

Énergir is actively promoting the development of renewable natural gas in Québec to reach 10% in the gas system by 2030.

Develop a strong complementarity between the gas and electricity networks

The electrification of the economy poses significant capacity and cost challenges. Énergir is working to offer dual-energy solutions in the building sector to manage peak electricity demand at the lowest cost to society by electrifying a portion of certain natural gas uses while maintaining natural gas during peak periods. This maximizes the value of natural gas rather than the volumes distributed while at the same time reducing GHGs by over 500,000 tonnes by 2030.

Diversify into new vectors of sustainable growth

The future of energy looks exciting and Énergir is working to develop new growth vectors. We are interested in several promising avenues for the future, such as offering energy expertise services, optimizing energy storage, and focusing on research and development and innovation. We are also considering different ways green hydrogen can contribute to the decarbonization of our gas network.

Our energies

We believe diversity is key to the future of energy. This is why Énergir is involved in developing renewable, liquefied and compressed natural gas, solar and wind power and hydroelectricity.
