Vehicles

New natural gas vehicles are subject to Transport Canada safety regulations and to Environment Canada Vehicle Emission Requirements. However, in the case of an existing vehicle that is converted to CNG or LNG, provincial regulations apply. In Québec, conversions must respect the Natural gas for vehicles installation code (CAN/CSA B109) and must be supervised by a mechanic who holds a certificate of qualification (TCG) from Emploi-Québec. Converted vehicles are also subject to the Safety Standards for Road Vehicles, including the periodic inspection of the fuel supply system.
Refuelling station

Compressed natural gas (CNG) stations must respect the Natural Gas Vehicle and Fuelling Station Installations (CAN/CSA–B108). Stations that supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) must respect the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) – Production, Storage, and Handling standard (CAN/CSA Z276-07). The initial commissioning, maintenance, repair, or dismantling of stations must be supervised by a person holding a certificate in CNG/LNG installation techniques (TIRGNC or TIRGNL) from Emploi-Québec.
Mechanical workshops

Natural Resources Canada has produced a technical guide which defines the requirements to be respected to ensure the safe maintenance of CNG/LNG vehicles indoors. The initial commissioning, maintenance, repair, or dismantling of stations must be supervised by a person holding a certificate in CNG/LNG installation techniques (TIRGNC or TIRGNL) from Emploi-Québec.
